Premier Futsal is a multi-national Futsal league conceptualized by Indian entrepreneurs, under the entity Premier Futsal Management Pvt. Ltd. It was founded by Indian entrepreneurs Abhinandan Balasubramanian, Dinesh Raj, and Nithyashree Subban, backed by business magnate Xavier Britto and his wife, philanthropist Vimala Britto. The term ‘Futsal’ literally means ‘mini-football’ and is a variant of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It can be considered a version of five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard-court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball. The surface, ball, and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. Futsal currently has two governing bodies: Asociación Mundial de Fútbol de Salón (AMF) and Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). AMF is the successor organization to the original governing body. FIFA later took an interest in futsal. The 2017 Premier Futsal is the second edition to Premier Futsal which debuted in July 2016.
Sports have been one of the most widely popular activities that Indians love to indulge in. Gone are the days when different sports were mainly played for recreational purpose or to satisfy the fitness demands. The India of today plays with a competitive frame of mind. People have changed with time and opportunities available. Taking Indian Sports to a whole another level, the task of governing and promoting them in India have fallen on several Indian sports associations. Sports organizations like the Indian Olympic Association and Sports Authority of India are working towards raising the standard of Indian sports through various talent promotion programs. There are also various corporate houses coming to the rescue of sponsors-starved games. In a year when the advertising business grew only 11.89%, sports sponsorship grew 19.33% in 2016 to touch Rs6,400 crore, highlighting the willingness of advertisers to spend big money on sporting events, in terms of sponsorships, endorsements by cricketers, and advertising during sports events and in their coverage across print, TV and digital media, found in a report jointly published by GroupM ESP, the sports and entertainment arm of GroupM and SportzPower, a sports business news company. In a country where the youth population is higher than most, many individuals never get the resources or even the opportunity to display what they are capable of. But now every individual has got a chance to do so and prove themselves. Every sport has a big banner now. There are businessmen, who wish to invest in the sports and thus, this has helped in changing the previous sports scenario in India, making it a better ground for players from across the country.
